Building Construction Materials
This module intends to inform the students on the basic building construction and materials used in the construction of small to medium scale buildings. It focuses on developing an understanding of the principle of the building elements which include the substructure and superstructure and common construction materials such as concrete, masonry, timber, metal, and glass. For each material, this module will describe the manufacturing process, properties and typical uses of these materials in construction. Students will undergo a series of continuous assessments such as assignments, and tutorial ativities to ascertain the objective and outcome of the module is achieved.
Project 1
Individually, student need to choose an architect from the given list. From the chosen architect, the student needs to identify FIVE (5) architectural building materials and TWO (2) structural building materials based on the case study. Students are also to study on the ideas, concept and properties of the selected materials used in relation to the building design and construction. Buildings selection can be from any time or age.


Project 2
This assignment will emphasize on producing detailing of building elements on superstructure which include floor, wall, door, window, staircase, and roof. Our task is to produce a construction that consist of floor plan, sections and details based on a floor plan of a two-storey house. Students are to obtain floor plans from developer housing showrooms.






























Reflection
In this module, I've learnt much on foundations and construction process for buildings in terms of materials for example timber and concrete. I've also developed an understanding of the principle of the building elements which include the substructure and superstructure and common construction materials such as concrete, masonry, timber, metal, and glass.
