Asian Architecture
Place identity is constructed on meanings that were shaped through socio-cultural, economics and political factors throughout a particular period of time. Such meanings are often embodied in the physical and non-physical aspects. In the context of traditional streets in a rapidly globalized city like Kuala Lumpur, changes in physical settings through urban developments may pose significant impacts on their established meanings. This project introduces ways of reading the important “lexicons” of traditional streets through the tangible qualities of architecture and space, and the intangible socio-cultural attributes. It enables students to understand the specific contexts that construct the distinctive place identity and socio-cultural meanings of the traditional streets.
Project 1
Students are required to conduct a virtual visit (using Google Street or Google Earth) to ONE of the following assigned traditional streets to study their distinctive place contexts

Project 2
Introduction The project is research driven that requires student to research and discuss significant issues to generate a critical understanding of tradition, modernity and globalisation in the Asian architectural contexts. These issues are discussed in lectures and pre-recorded lectures to facilitate students’ group discussion in class. Students are required to present their findings in the form of a research poster and seminar presentation.

Reflection
Modernization is slowly and growing which affects the architectural style and identity of the building, it removes the culture and history from the building step by step when time goes by. So it is crucial of us, the younger generation to preserve and protect traditional architecture for the future generations and to protect Jalan Tun HS.Lee's architectural identity.
